I met Meera and Subramaniam in the last barcamp at bloggers collective. They were talking about an interesting initiative which was about local news which matters to people and blogging. I knew it going to be great if it comes alive and implemented properly. I met them again few times online/offline when they wanted to source eventsbangalore.net for events. They are very enthu about their new project and yes they have all the reasons. Today they have announced it officially. Go check it. Its a rare initiative and looks at Bengalurus (Bangalore) from another angle.
Here the content of the mail they sent me today.
Are you tired of reading about minor celebrities from Hollywood in your newspaper? Would you like to read news that informs you about issues which matter to all of us as Bangaloreans; from the quality of drinking water, effects of road widening, usage of the RTI act, to the complexities of school admissions processes and the travails of booking a kalyana mantapa? If Yes, please log on to www.citizenmatters.in Citizen Matters, our new Bangalore focused e-zine is a informative, independent community news publication that provides in-depth local news. We encourage citizen involvement and collaboration.
But we are not just about serious stuff, you can also get to know of interesting and useful things like a local indie band playing in a nearby cafe or a fun weekend activity for you and your children in Cubbon Park! Your support, encouragement and feedback are important to us, and believe me we will never feature Jennifer Lopez, until she moves to Bangalore and files an RTI petition. Thanks for your time. The Indian Montessori Association, in association with Indian Institute for Montessori Studies has been conducting the ‘Montessori Mela’ during the month of February every year, under the name ‘Metamorphosis’. Over the years this event has generated a lot of response from Montessorians and public alike. As per the request of public, we have decided to dedicate Metamorphosis 2008 to bring the program for primary age group to public notice.
The Association is setting up a working primary class room to bring clarity to the idea of Montessori and to give those interested a glimpse into the way the program works. Children from various schools will take turns to work there. There will also an exhibition of a preprimary class, with trained teachers to explain the usage of materials. Events will be staged from time to time by children of different schools throughout the day.
At the exhibition, the changes in the child at each stage of development, his needs, his tasks and the approach to educate him will be portrayed in the stall of Indian Institute of Montessori Studies. The trainee teachers of the Institute will explain activities of the children to the visitors. There will also be a panel of experienced Montessorians from both preprimary and primary to answer questions of the public. Stalls of manufacturers of materials, publishers of books and information regarding schools will also be available.
We propose to release our magazine to coincide with the occasion. It will contain articles on the Montessori method as a whole and a directory of Montessori schools and material manufacturers.
